We usually think that only adults start businesses. But the Internet makes it easy for young people to do it, too. High school student Jie En from Malaysia is a good example. She sells beauty products to other teenagers across the country. Every day when she gets home from school, she goes online. If she has any new orders, she puts the products in boxes and takes them to the post office.
Jie En’s secret is that she knows what her customers want. Before she started her business, she talked to female friends and classmates. She asked them what kind of beauty products they would buy online. This information lets her predict what products will sell well. She is always looking for new products, and is thinking about traveling to other cities to find other things she could sell.
It is hard work, but each month Jie En can make a profit of up to $1500. In fact, she is doing so well that she recently hired an assistant. She is proud of her business, and in the future, she might own a real store in her town. Judging from her current success, the store would do well.

The human brain is an amazing organ. On average it weighs just three pounds (1.5 kilograms) but has been called “the most complex thing in the universe” because it can solve problems quickly and accurately. However, sometimes our brains work in mysterious ways that scientists find hard to explain.
One example of this is post-decisional dissonance. This is a complex name for something that is both common and simple. When people make a decision, they want to feel their choice was the right one. As a result, people often focus on the positive features of their choice in order to support the decision they made. Imagine, for instance, that a man buys a pair of black shoes. He might later say black was the better choice because it shows the dirt less than other colors even though this reason was not part of his original decision-making process.
What is even more interesting is that recent research suggests washing our hands can affect our brains. Imagine, this time, that the man buys black shoes and then washes his hands. According to the research, this customer might now accept that either black or another color would have been a good choice. One theory that explains this puzzling finding is that handwashing helps our brains accept we made the right choice, so we no longer need to prove to ourselves that we did.
